The technique refers to the isomerization of pseudocumene in the catalyst to produce mesitylene.
Mesitylene is one of the important raw materials which widely used in the manufacture of antioxidants, herbicides, uv absorbent in rubber, m-tritoluidine, trimesic and other products.
The production methods of mesitylene include: heavy aromatics extraction and distillation separation, HF-BF3 extraction, sulfonation extraction and mesitylene isomerism extraction. At present, the C9 aromatics rectification and separation method is mostly used in industry, but the boiling point difference between mesitylene and o-methylethyl benzene is less than 0.5℃, so it is difficult and costly to get high purity mesitylene. The new developed process by Talos solves this problem very well.
