Zhongjia Huachen Energy Co., Ltd. is a well-known petrochemical products supplier and sales enterprises. At the beginning of its establishment, there was a BDO device, but since 2012, the price of butanediol in the market has been declining, the company faced a big loss of the device operation. In order to change this situation, Zhongjia Huachen intends to transform the BDO device into a device for medium pressure hydrogenation of fatty acid methyl ester to produce fatty alcohol. However, the available processes of fatty acid methyl ester hydrogenation to fatty alcohol in China was high pressure hydrogenation, and the cost of transformation was incredible. And the medium pressure ester hydrogenation process was monopolized by a western famous company, the price for license itself was more than 10 million Euro. The company faced a dilemma, the enterprise benefit declines year after year.

At the end of 2013, Zhongjia Huachen entrusted Talos to develop medium pressure ester hydrogenation catalyst and the corresponding process. After fully considering the actual situation of this customer, the company decided to accept the challenge and independently develop medium pressure ester hydrogenation process.

In the following months, the team of technical experts and laboratory staff worked day and night with no fear of the difficulties, experienced a variety of failures, and constantly learned from the lessons. In less than one year, we finally developed the medium pressure ester hydrogenation catalyst and the corresponding process successfully.

In September 2014, during the trial operation of Zhongjia Huachen Industrial Experimental Facility, the first test operation was successful, and the conversion rate of fatty acid methyl ester reached 99.5%. Such success created great value for customer. At the same time, this device also become the first set of medium pressure ester hydrogenation device in China, which broke the foreign company's monopoly position on related technology.
